Dr. Christopher Trott

Dr. Christopher Trott

Medical Director

Loyola Marymount University; Colorado State University

Dr. Trott grew up in Southern California. After attending colleges out of state, he came back to San Diego to complete a rotating internship at a veterinary specialty hospital. As an emergency vet, Dr. Trott was intrigued by the new way of practicing ER medicine that was happening at VEG veterinary emergency hospitals. He especially appreciated the openness of the company, being able to allow clients to be involved in the treatment of their pets, and the ease of communication when people and their pets are kept together.

This review is largely excluding cost, because although there were many positives about it, the overall cost of vet care is insane. I came here after driving around all morning looking for a place that had a vet available for immediate attention. The person who I spoke with at Uptown recommended this place. I had never heard of them but they were super close to everything so I went over. The whole experience from the moment I walked in was so much better than anything I have experienced in the 25 years I have been taking dogs to vets. We never had to leave our dog's side. We saw everything that was happening around and got to see them work in true worst case scenarios. They were kind, professional, attentive, and worked hard to care for every animal around. Our girl was not doing well and given my experience at other vets, I don't know if she would have made it had we taken her elsewhere. I had my kids with me all day the first day. A 4 year old and 1 year old in an open space with sick animals and lots of equipment isn't ideal. They have iPads to watch movies, snacks, the good water machine, coffee, tea, coloring books, puzzles, etc. I think the sceen time and snacks the day prior (and the stress of seeing our Pep so sick) made the behavior a little less than ideal the 2nd day so we got a private room. I probably was not in my calmest state, either, but they were all amazing and kind. My husband brought our baby home this morning. My littlest is already stomping around saying "Peppy! Peppy!! Hi Peppy! Peppy Baby!" She is home and happy and largely unaffected by the stress of the last few days. I really think she is doing so well not only because of the vet care she received, but also because of the environment at this clinic. As for the cost - like I mentioned, vet care is sooo expensive. Was it a lot of money? Yes. Worth it? Yes. It isn't like we can't pay it nor wouldn't have paid more if necessary, but it just adds up quickly. I don't have to tell anyone how expensive life is here in San Diego. HOWEVER, they honored our request to approach testing incrementally, and they even said things like, "let me look at the finances and see how far we can stretch out the hospital stay with what you have paid." You never hear stuff like that. And when I asked about tests, they were honest in that we could totally get them if we wanted, but they knew we didn't want to blindly test and they didn't think the results from other tests made it necessary. It usually is what it is and everything is done out of your sight anyways. We got out of the 2 day hospital stay and a bunch of testing and meds for a little over 6k. And the experience itself was definitely better in every way. If you have an emergency, I highly recommend VEG!

First time here and we will 100% be coming back for any future emergencies with our dog (hopefully not too many times lol). Our girl was taken care of from the second we walked in to the minute she left. We were able to be there with her the whole time, and all the staff were such a joy. Grateful it wasn’t life threatening—even then they still treated her with priority and made us feel heard. Thank you to the team! She says thank you as she’s currently on her pain meds lol

Our dog ate a whole corn on the cob so we took her in around 8:30pm. Everybody from the minute we got into the building were so genuine and caring. Kenny and Dr. Kelly made sure we knew what was going on, and explained every step while not being dissmive of any of our concerns. The staff were able to get our dog into emergency surgery that night! The receptionist even set up a futon with sheets, blankets and pillows for us to make sure we could rest while we waited for her surgery to be completed. If we ever have another emergency we will only go here!
